The DCU has already recast a Thanos-level villain after an underwhelming Snyderverse debut, according to a recent update from writer Tom King. The character in question is Scott Free, also known as Mister Miracle, who is tied to the cosmic side of the DC Universe and has connections to the New Gods and the iconic supervillain Darkseid.
King revealed that both Mister Miracle and Darkseid have been cast in the animated series, which he is writing and producing. This is significant because it means that the DCU will share actors for specific characters between live-action and animated projects, as previously discussed by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn.
The synopsis for Mister Miracle was recently revealed, teasing the title character's escape artist abilities and the cosmic stakes of his story. It also hinted at the war between the characters' home worlds, Apocalypse and New Genesis, and the capture of the Anti-Life Equation by Darkseid, the ultimate weapon that will give him total dominance over the universe.
Gunn also addressed how the DCU's approach to Darkseid will differ from that of the Snyderverse, particularly to avoid comparisons to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's iteration of Thanos. He explained that Darkseid would not be a looming threat in the same way that Snyder approached the character, and that delving into the worlds of New Genesis and Apokolips will give the DCU a different entry point to Darkseid's story.
Despite King's update and Gunn's affirmation, no formal cast announcements have been made, and Mister Miracle is still in development with no listed release date. However, the series is expected to be a significant addition to the DCU, with King's involvement and the potential for shared actors between live-action and animated projects.
