Miami Heat Snatches Victory from NBA Champion Oklahoma City Thunder in a Thrilling 122-120 Showdown!

Andrew Wiggins' clutch three-pointer with a mere 31 seconds remaining on the clock proved to be the game-changer, propelling the Miami Heat to a hard-fought victory against the reigning NBA champion, the Oklahoma City Thunder. This electrifying game, held on January 18, 2026, saw the Heat triumph with a final score of 122-120.

Bam Adebayo delivered a stellar performance for Miami, showcasing his skills with 30 points, including a career-best six three-pointers. Contributing significantly to the Heat's score were Norman Powell with 19 points and Pelle Larsson with 16 points. Furthermore, Simone Fontecchio and Myron Gardner added a combined 24 points off the bench, providing crucial support.

On the other side, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge for Oklahoma City, amassing an impressive 39 points. Aaron Wiggins contributed 18 points, while Ajay Mitchell and Chet Holmgren scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.

But here's where it gets controversial... the Thunder suffered a setback when Jalen Williams had to leave the game midway through the second quarter due to right thigh soreness. Although the team's initial diagnosis was thigh soreness, Williams was seen grabbing his right hamstring as he left the court. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault announced that Williams would be evaluated the following day, which raised a lot of questions about the real injury.

In the final moments, the Thunder had an opportunity to tie the game after Andrew Wiggins' decisive three-pointer. However, Holmgren missed a shot off a lobbed inbounds pass from Alex Caruso, allowing Miami to secure the rebound. The Thunder managed to get a stop on the subsequent Heat possession, calling a timeout with only 3.0 seconds left.

Caruso inbounded the ball to Gilgeous-Alexander, who quickly passed it back to Caruso. Caruso's three-point attempt, however, bounced off the backboard and rim as time expired, sealing the Heat's victory. This loss marked the first time this season that Oklahoma City lost a game while scoring at least 120 points; their record in such games was previously an undefeated 24-0.

The Heat, despite missing key players such as Tyler Herro (sore big toe, bruised rib), Davion Mitchell (bruised left shoulder), and Jaime Jaquez Jr. (sprained left knee), managed to pull off the win. It's worth noting that Miami took 111 shots compared to Oklahoma City's 77.

Adding to the narrative, Gilgeous-Alexander's performance extended his streak of scoring at least 20 points in a regular-season game to 113 consecutive games. He is now just 13 games away from tying Wilt Chamberlain's record. During this remarkable run, Gilgeous-Alexander has scored 30 or more points 77 times.
