NBC Sports Graphics Team Brings L.A. Vibes to NBA All-Star Weekend | Behind the Scenes (2026)

The NBC Sports graphics crew brings the NBA All-Star to life with a creative twist! But how do you create a unique visual identity for a special event while maintaining a consistent brand?

The NBC Sports graphics team had a unique task: to design a fresh look for the NBA All-Star event while keeping their recently reintroduced brand identity. And they did it with a clever approach—by immersing themselves in the city's vibe.

Senior Art Director Chad Hudson's strategy was to capture the essence of Los Angeles. During the All-Star Weekend, the team left their usual base in Stamford, CT, and worked onsite in L.A. This move allowed them to capture the city's energy and incorporate it into the graphics.

The team's regular-season graphics showcase cityscapes from a high vantage point. But for the All-Star event, they wanted a different perspective. "We wanted to be a little more intimate," Hudson said, and they achieved this by using street-level imagery of iconic L.A. landmarks.

Each All-Star Saturday event had its own unique twist. The Shooting Stars competition graphics featured the Hollywood sign with shooting stars, while the 3-Point Contest creatively used Griffith Observatory's telescope lens to symbolize long-range shooting. For the Slam Dunk Contest, Venice Beach's palm trees emphasized the event's height. Even the graphics for the All-Star Game on Sunday got the L.A. treatment, showcasing close-ups of famous locations like Rodeo Drive.

This attention to detail extended to player graphics, which featured L.A.-themed backgrounds instead of the regular home-city motifs. The team's dedication to capturing the city's essence is remarkable.

And here's where it gets personal. For Hudson, this project was a homecoming, having worked on NBA graphics for over a decade at Turner. His expertise and passion shine through in this unique graphics package.

But is this approach a one-off, or could it become a new trend in sports broadcasting? The NBC Sports team's work sparks an interesting debate on the balance between brand consistency and event-specific customization. What do you think? Are unique event graphics like these a welcome change, or should broadcasters stick to a more uniform look throughout the season? Share your thoughts in the comments!
