A new digital dawn has arrived for Namibia’s public sector. On Friday, Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi unveiled the Government E-Stores Platform — a groundbreaking initiative expected to curb theft, eliminate corruption, and make government procurement processes faster, fairer, and more transparent. But here’s where it gets even more interesting — this platform isn’t just a tech tool; it’s a symbol of a deeper national shift toward accountability and inclusive economic growth.
Speaking at the official launch, Nekundi described the event as more than a formal ceremony. He called it a celebration of unity and progress: a moment where Namibians come together not only as public officials but as a single community driven by a shared dream — building a prosperous and equitable nation. According to him, this digital transformation marks a defining step in modernising the country’s public service sector and reshaping how procurement and supply chains operate within government.
The E-Stores Platform introduces a centralised digital marketplace where government entities can access and order standard stock items with ease, visibility, and consistency. Nekundi stressed that this system is designed to bring convenience, transparency, and accountability to the heart of government operations. What makes it even more powerful is its nationwide reach — every regional government store will now have equal access to this digital infrastructure, ensuring fairness and efficiency from Windhoek to the most remote corners of the country.
During the launch, Nekundi extended heartfelt gratitude to a wide range of collaborators — from the Division of Centralised Services and IT specialists who built the platform, to development partners and supporting institutions that made the project possible. Their work, he said, goes far beyond technical or financial contributions. They’ve invested in Namibia’s long-term success. He praised the cooperative spirit of the initiative, calling it a living example of what can happen when government, business, and communities share a single goal. “Together, we are not merely completing projects,” he said. “We are designing pathways to shared prosperity — this is what true nation-building looks like.”
And this is the part most people overlook — beyond efficiency and savings, the E-Stores Platform could open new doors for local suppliers, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and Namibian-owned businesses. By digitising procurement, the government is not only simplifying its supply systems but also ensuring fair access to opportunities that drive inclusive growth. Nekundi noted that Namibia’s unique position within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) gives it both the responsibility and the potential to lead digital innovation in the region.
“With this platform,” Nekundi said, “Namibia strengthens its institutions, strengthens its digital backbone, and reinforces its role as a trusted regional partner. This move aligns us with the future of governance — one built on trust, efficiency, and shared benefit.” The E-Stores Platform, he added, embodies a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and modern governance.
Ultimately, the minister described this innovation as a tool that ensures public funds circulate more productively within the government system, cutting procurement delays and elevating public service delivery.
